Welcome to Andover Liquors!
Six Grapes is one of Graham's original Port blends and is thus one of the Company's oldest marks.
It is a very full-bodied, luscious wine drawn from the same vineyards as Graham's Vintage Ports. Blended from two or three years' harvests, the wine is an average of five to six years old when bottled. It follows the Graham's Vintage style very closely, although it has softened more quickly by being matured in oak casks rather than in bottle. Its extremely rich fruity style makes it a truly superb, rare and appealing Port.
The rather curious depiction on the bottle of bunches of grapes has always been used to identify the "Six Grapes" blend.
Six Grapes is one of Graham’s original Port marques. It is a big-hearted wine, sourced from the same vineyards (essentially Quinta dos Malvedos and Quinta das Lages) that contribute to Graham’s famed Vintage Ports in ‘declared’ years. As such, it closely resembles Graham’s Vintage Port style: full-bodied, with rich opulent black fruit on the palate and fragrant brambly aromas. We think of it as the ‘everyday Port for the Vintage Port drinker.’ Six Grapes is bottled relatively young (between 3 and 4 years) in order to retain the freshness and vigour comparable to a young Vintage Port.
The NV Six Grapes Reserve Port is a blend of typical grapes aged in used wood for up to three years. It comes in with 114 grams per liter of residual sugar and was bottled with a bar-top cork in August 2018. In the Symington lineup this issue, this iconic brand is the polar opposite of the Dow. In comparison, the Dow is rounder and bigger but also a bit flatter and with less well-defined fruit, while this is more lifted and fresher, with better focus and more intensity on the finish. It has a beautiful expression of fruit as well. I’ve seen it available on the street for a lot less than that ”suggested” release price, so don’t hesitate to look around.
