Our Cachaça, Leblon, is distilled at our own state-of-the-art distillery, Maison Leblon, in the fertile Minas Gerais region. Our approach to Cachaça is unique: Gilles Merlet, our master distiller, approaches the fermentation, distillation, and finishing of Cachaça like a fine wine. Using techniques from his native land of France, Gilles manages every detail of the creation - from the hand-selection of the cane and his proprietary fermentation approach, to the Alambique batch-distillation and light-casking, triple-filtering, and master-blending. Gilles rests the final distillate in XO Cognac casks from France, giving Leblon an extra-special touch. As a result, Leblon Cachaça has a delicate, fruity nose, combined with an ultra smooth finish. So, now that you understand what Cachaça is, how to say it, and how to use it, we invite you to explore this wonderful new world.
The Leblon distillery, Maison Leblon, is located in Patos de Minas, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Leblon is an artisanal distillery where the cachaça is single-distilled from the juice of fresh-pressed sugar cane in small batches using alambique copper pot stills. The cane grows in high altitude micro-climate and is renowned for its taste and flavor. The cane is pressed within 3 hours of harvesting to guarantee freshness. Each single batch of Leblon is lightly rested in XO cognac casks for an average of 6 months and the batches are then blended to create our unique complexity and consistency: the award-winning taste of Leblon. From the fields to the bottle, care is taken throughout the process to ensure quality at each step. Each step of the process is overseen by Master Distiller Gilles Merlet, a famous master distiller from the Cognac Region of France. The following are the high points of our production method:
Inside the tall, distinctive lime-green bottle, look for a faintly yellow-tinged liquid with pungent, ripe tropical fruit aromas. Though it’s a little intense straight up, with brown sugar sweetness fading into a long fruity finish, it stands up well in a long drink with soda, like a mojito. - K.N.
